By this time you have probably heard the buzz – Pantone dropped its 2019 color of the year last week and we are beyond excited. In our blogs we have discussed Pantone and their color intelligence. We get inspired by their predictions and trust them, as they have been doing this for a long time – since the 60s! Earlier this month we reviewed the Color of the Year since its origin, in anticipation for the new pick.
On the chilly afternoon of last Thursday, PANTONE announced their 2019 color of the year, and it is far from the cool, brown, and dreary tones of a winter season. Quite the contrary, Pantone describes the color as “An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge”. We often forget that coral is a naturally occurring color and I think that plays to its organic yet vibrant and exciting explanation. Now, I have seen some coral in my day and never thought much of it, but Pantone does have a way with words, and colors.
My favorite part of Pantone’s Color of the Year is their use of adjectives. Here are the words used to describe PANTONE 16-1546 “Living Coral”: vibrant, mellow, warm, nourishing, intimate, sociable, spirited, optimistic, joyful, playful, nurturing, natural, and lively.
Pantone goes on to describe why the color was picked, expressing the dull age of technology we live in (my words not theirs). Although saddening, they have a point. In a word full of slick black screens and cold silver metal, this color is rather refreshing, and warm to the eye.
Earlier this season we posted a blog on the top color trends to expect in interior design as predicted by Pantone, and implemented them in mood boards featuring cabinets from our partners. Since coral cabinets are few and far between, here are some ideas, tips, and tricks to carry out the perfect coral touch to any home.
The perfect way to spruce up a neutral kitchen is to add a pop of color in the form of a dish or hand towel. This is also another simple way to stay on top of the trends without breaking the bank every year.
Like the dish towel, this is an easy way to implement the color without buying a PANTONE Color of the Year couch annually.
KitchenAid Stand Mixer
In July of 2018 KitchenAid began their own Color of the Year: Bird of Paradise. Ahead of the curve, the KitchenAid series closely resembles Living Coral. If a stand mixer is too grandiose for you they have other accessories adorning the same coral finish.
If you have open shelves or glass paned cabinets in your kitchen, this is the perfect opportunity for you to add some coral to your kitchen. Whether it be glasses, wine glasses, a vase or bowl a touch of coral is sure to brighten the space.
