In our opinion, one of the best blogs for sparking kitchen creativity is Sips & Tips written by Suzanne Derusha – Medallion Cabinetry’s Design & Trends Expert. In her Happy New Year blog she writes about design trends for 2019, one of which is Two-Toned Kitchens.
Here are some examples from our work and from Medallion Cabinetry:
Winslow – This is actually a three-tone kitchen, using Winslow maple: wine rack cabinet in Natural Burnt Sienna Glaze and Highlight, range hood and adjacent cabinets in cherry Harvest Bronze Ebony Glaze and Highlight; and the Hutch is maple White Icing Classic.
Santa Cruz – Maple Harvest Bronze Ebony Glaze and Highlight is used for the accent pieces and Oyster Mocha Glaze and Highlight is used for the rest of the kitchen. The surprise is how well this design works with stainless steel appliances. Also, check out the beautiful moulding at the top of the cabinets.
Fenwick and Lancaster – Fenwick knotty alder Walnut on the cabinets; Lancaster maple Islander Dry Brush for the islands. This color theme is carried through to the window treatments, chair upholstery fabrics and the wrought iron of the breakfast table and chairs. The door details work very well together: the more showy detail of the cabinet doors is echoed in the reverse side of the storage island.
Sonoma – a two-tone kitchen doesn’t have to use two tones of cabinets. Here is an excellent example of suing appliance fronts to add a splash of interesting color. The accent color is also included in the countertops. The designer used Sonoma Flat Panel rustic maple Natural with Chestnut accents. We also like the way the mottled wall covering supports the interesting grain patterns of the cabinet material.
Ellison and Bella – In Transitional Kitchen style, this design makes use of contemporary Bella quarter sawn oak Shale cabinets in the food preparation area and frames it with Ellison Flat Panel maple White Icing Pewter Highlight. There is a sophisticated pairing of a traditional island with modern seating. The lighting fixtures do nice work mirroring the stainless steel of the appliances and island stools.
