In honor of last weeks Earth Day we are penning this blog to let you know about Medallion Cabinetry’s commitment to sustainability. We show our commitment by partnering with supplies who are as serious about sustainability as we are.
One example is our partnership with Timber Products Company, a subsidiary of Michigan-California Timber Company (MCTC). They manage 114,000 acres of forests in Northern California. They also plant, on average, 350,000 trees each year and regrow 800 acres of forest.
Sustainability Forestry Initiative
SFI certifications means that MCTC practices responsible forestry on the lands that they manage. Its requirements include protecting water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, at-risk species, and forests that have exceptional conservation value. MCTC has been audited and certified by PricewaterhouseCoopers as fully compliant with SFI Forestry Standards.
Forest Stewardship Council
FSC certification ensures that MCTC products, like their GreenT eco-friendly hardwood plywood, come from responsibility managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits. There are two types of FSC certifications available: Forestry Management and Chain-of-Custody (CoC). MCTC has CoC certification, which guarantees the production of FDC-certified products, identifying them as products sourced through responsible forest management.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB)
CARB sets goals for attaining and maintaining healthy air quality, protecting the public from exposure to toxic air contaminants, and providing innovative approaches for complying with air pollution rules and regulations. All MCTC facilities are CARB-Exempt, and our products meet the stringent CARB Phase 2 emission standards for formaldehyde emissions from composite woods products, including hardwood plywood, particle board and MDF.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Toxic Substance Control Act Title VI (EPA TSCA Title VI)
This is the EPA’s version of the CARB Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) Phase 2 standards. This act regulates the emissions from wood products. MCTC has 5 facilities certified for TSCA Title VI: Ampine, Medford particle board and hardwood plywood, Grants Pass hardwood plywood, and Corinth hardwood plywood.
The Eco-Certified Composite (ECC) Sustainability Standard
This was developed by the Composite Panel Association (CPA) for manufacturers of composite wood or agrifiber-based panels made particle board, medium density fiberboard (MDF), hardboard, engineered wood siding, and engineered wood trim. The standard includes using the CPA Carbon Calculator to asses the lifecycle and carbon footprint of composite panels made at a particular manufacturing plant. Both MCTC’s Ampine and Medford Particleboard plants meet this standard.
MCTC’s Grants Pass plywood manufacturing facility is certified under Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS). Additionally, all products out of their Ampine manufacturing facility in Sutter Creek are certified by the Composite Panel Association under the Physical and Mechanical Properties Grademark Certification Program (PMP Program).
As you can see, Medallion Cabinetry’s partner MCTC has achieved a high level of sustainability and environmental compliance. Another reason why we proudly represent Medallion Cabinetry.
